The LSU Tigers have consistently produced NFL-caliber quarterbacks over the years. Garrett Nussmeier is hoping to be the next one.

Head coach Brian Kelly talked about his new starting quarterback during SEC Media Days. During his media availability, Kelly was bold enough to state that there were some similarities between Nussmeier and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.

"There is certainly common traits," Kelly told reporters. "I think the first one certainly, if we’re talking outside of the skill factor, right, the ability to throw the football. If you talk about just from the neck up, the ability to certainly translate...That was one of Jayden Daniels’ best assets. You could watch it, talk about it, he could recite it. You could be in a meeting and you would walk out of that meeting and go, amazing."

Nussmeier comes into the 2024 season with plenty of expectations. The son of former NFL QB and current Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach Doug Nussmeier, the LSU quarterback has been around football his entire life. He came out of high school as a 4-star recruit with offers from the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, and Miami Hurricanes.

Instead, Nussmeier decided go to LSU, where he has patiently worked as a backup for the last three seasons. He's made some appearances during that time, throwing 219 passes for 1,720 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Don't expect Nussmeier to have the same kind of impact that Daniels had as a runner. However, he should be able to help keep LSU's passing game moving throughout the 2024 season.
