College football recruiting can be a chaotic experience. Just ask the Auburn Tigers.

The Tigers secured a commitment from 3-star tight end Hollis Davidson back in February. Then, in May, he decided to reopen his commitment, leaving Auburn to search for other options at the position.

Despite reopening his recruiting search, Davidson has officially announced his commitment to Auburn. Again.

“After my decommitment, I just really opened up things again and took a step back,” Davidson told On3. “We got invited up to the 7-on-7 and it was going to interfere with one of my OV’s, but we figured it out because I wanted to get back to Auburn.”

Davidson is a 6-foot-6, 230 pound tight end out of Peachtree City, Georgia. He's a top-500 recruit in the 2025 class, and widely considered a top-50 tight end nationally.

It's a strong class for head coach Hugh Freeze, who got off to a less-than-ideal 6-7 start with the Tigers last season. They currently have the 11th-best recruiting class for 2025, which includes nine 4-star recruits.

Their top recruit is also an in-state player in Eric Winters, a 4-star safety. He's one of the top players in the state of Alabama, and a top-100 player in the country.

Despite the strong class, the Tigers still have a lot of work to do. They currently have the 10th-highest odds to win the SEC in 2024. Payton Thorne will hope to lead an offense with some incoming transfer receivers in KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Robert Lewis, and Sam Jackson V.

An influx of talent from the transfer portal could help the Tigers turn the ship around in time for the 2025 recruiting class to be set up for success down the road.
