Until a recruit shows up for practices, you can't assume anything anymore.
The Auburn Tigers secured a 2025 commitment from one of their top players in the recruiting class back in August of 2023. An in-state 4-star EDGE, Jakaleb Faulk made his decision to play for Hugh Freeze pretty early in the process.
However, Faulk is still weighing his options despite being committed to Auburn. Keith Niebuhr with On3 reported that Faulk is still actively considering the Florida Gators while weighing his other options before finally shutting down his recruitment for good.
"I just want to think about it a little more before I shut it down," Faulk told On3.
Coming in at nearly 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Faulk is a borderline top-100 recruit in the 2025 class. He's also an in-state recruit for the Tigers coming out of Highland Home, Alabama.
If Faulk flips his commitment for Florida, it would be a huge blow to Auburn's 2025 recruiting class. Faulk is currently their third-highest ranked recruit behind a pair of fellow in-state prospects in safety Eric Winters and defensive lineman Malik Autry.
The Tigers continue to slide down the national recruiting rankings for 2025 as well. Hugh Freeze's program has dropped five spots in the recent updated 2025 rankings, dropping all the way down to 13th in the country. Losing a recruit like Faulk could send the entire recruiting class into a downward spiral
There's still hope for at least one recruit, however. Auburn is currently the favorite to land 4-star running back Ousmane Kromah out of Georgia.
Auburn still has some time to secure a solid recruiting class, but losing a player like Faulk to an SEC rival like the Gators would certainly sting.
