You know it’s the SEC college football summer deadzone when recruiting outlets are ranking daily performances at Elite 11 camps.
But you’re a diehard SEC college football fan, and you want new content to consume while you’re grilling, jetskiing, or lounging by the pool.
So if you’re an Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M Aggie, Missouri Tiger, or Georgia Bulldog fan, get ready for some good news.
247 Sports’ Andrew Ivins likes what he’s seeing at Mira Costa High School, where he’s ranking the 20 quarterbacks’ performances who have been invited to show off and get coaches and fans salivating.
Four of the top five impressing early are SEC commits: Alabama commit Keelon Russell at No. 2, Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet at No. 3, Mizzou commit Matt Zollers at No. 4, and Georgia commit Ryan Montgomery at No. 5. Only prized five-star Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair was ranked higher.
Russell “was able to make pretty much any throw that was asked of him by either altering his release or changing his arm angle,” wrote Ivins. “We didn't see Russell put many passes on the ground as he hit his marks with pace and precision.”
For Russell at No. 3, it was his impressive arm strength. Similarly for Zollers with a cannon, and he’s showing big upside “with his athletic build.” With Montgomery, it’s all about accuracy and his “elite” processing.

Any way you slice it, the race to join Georgia as a perennial power is on.
