It is official: Head coach Ryan Day has named Will Howard as the starting quarterback for The Ohio State Buckeyes.
This news came just after practice during a press conference with coach Day, via Ohio State Football on Lettermen Row, where Day went on to explain how Howard was exceeding during practices.
"Will Howard will start the first game against Akron. He is our starting quarterback. I think that Chip [Kelly] has done a great job of rolling the quarterbacks from the first day of spring all the way to now. I think we’re 12 or 13 practices in here. So, we’re talking 27, 28 practices and when you take the aggregate of all the numbers, Will graded out significantly ahead of the other guys.”
Howard is coming off his 2023 season with the Kansas State Wildcats where he threw for 2,643 yards and a school record of 24 touchdowns in 12 regular-season games.
It was back on January 4, 2024 when Howard officially transferred to Ohio State following the transfer of then-starting quarterback Kyle McCord, who is now playing for Syracuse.
Day continued his comments by stating that Devin Brown will be the second-string and that the other quarterbacks will continue to be putting in work throughout the season, starting with a scrimmage on Saturday, August 17.
Now, Will Howard looks to lead the second-ranked Buckeyes towards a Big Ten title and a National Title. But first, the focus is on the Akron Zips. That game takes place on Saturday, August 31 at 3:30 PM EST.
