Vanderbilt fans retrieved quite the keepsake to remember their beloved side's upset victory over No. 1 Alabama on Saturday evening.
Following the Commodores' 40-35 conquest over the Crimson Tide, those who packed into the FirstBank Stadium concourses swapped their usual post for the field itself, frolicking alongside their heroes as starlight bounced across their faces.
The celebrations didn't end when the stadium was cleared. In fact, those who filled up Vandy's amphitheater brought a piece of history with them. Commodores supporters ripped one of the goalposts out of ground, proceeding to take it on a tour of Nashville as if it were a tourist.

Vanderbilt fans give FirstBank Stadium goalposts a tour of Nashville
Vanderbilt's win over Alabama was the most exciting sight on Saturday night. The first was those gleaming goalposts — adorned by sugar, spice and plenty of beer — galavanting down the Music City's roads.
One can imagine the difficulty of transporting a 45-foot-tall post out of the stadium gates. Fortunately for the Vanderbilt faithful, FirstBank Stadium's security crew was more than willing to help facilitate the move.

Fans escorted the artifact down West End Ave., eventually reaching Broadway — one of Nashville's most storied landmarks.
The entourage was soon accompanied by a full police escort and granted passage on I-40 as it attempted to make its way to downtown.
The crowd found a home in the heart of the city, nestling nicely between Bridgestone Arena and the countless country music-themed eateries which line Nashville's landscape.

The goalpost's final resting place lied in Cumberland River, a 2.5-mile trek from its origins. Fans paid respects to the apparatus which gave them so much joy over the last few hours, sending off the harrowing figure with a flourish.

Vandy fans haven't seen a whole lot of gridiron success over the years. Their commitment to cherishing the opportunity when it presented itself should be commended. It will definitely be remembered.
