A pair of College Football Playoff dark horses clash when No. 25 UNLV hosts Syracuse on Friday evening.

The Rebels find themselves at the center of the evolving college football landscape. Matthew Sluka, UNLV's starting quarterback, is sitting out the rest of the season due to an NIL dispute with the school. Sluka, a transfer from Holy Cross, plans to re-enter the transfer portal come December.

Sixth-year senior Hajj-Malik Williams, a transfer from Campbell, started in Sluka's place last week. Williams notched four total touchdowns, throwing for 182 yards and rushing for 119 more in a 59-14 destruction of Fresno State. And the Rebels, despite all the hubbub, are undefeated and ranked 25th in the latest AP Poll.

Syracuse, on the other hand, hardly has any quarterback problems. Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord has fit in seamlessly, with 14 touchdowns across his first four games for the Orange (4-1).
