UConn fake field goal fails miserably, Missouri escapes upset image

Almost doesn't count in anything horeshoes and hand grenades.

UConn learned that the hard way today, falling 9-6 on the road against Missouri Saturday. The Huskies had the Tigers, back-to-back SEC runner-ups, right where they wanted them to with a chance to kick a 42-yard field-goal, tie the game and possibly force overtime. But, instead of trusting kicker Bobby Puyol's leg, they decided to fake a field goal, and try to pick up a first down. The play was nearly doomed from the start. MIzzou had it defended fairly well. Tim Boyle committed the cardinal sin of throwing it high and over the middle, and the Tigers' Anthony Sherrills easily picked it off, and the upset bid was toast.

Add the Huskies to the list of smaller football programs that nearly knocked off an SEC team along with FCS Jacksonville State, which pushed Auburn to the brink a week ago. Hey, but at least UConn went down, playing to win.
