UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee is going from two-sport star in college to pro quarterback.
Plumlee was selected No. 3 overall in the 2024 UFL Draft by the Arlington Renegades on July 17 after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. He’s currently on the training camp roster for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent. The Steelers report for camp on July 24.
Plumlee played both baseball and football in college, first for Ole Miss then for UCF after he transferred following the 2021 season. Plumlee set Ole Miss rushing record for freshman and for quarterbacks in 2019 when he ran for 1,023 yards and 12 touchdowns while throwing for 910 yards and 4 touchdowns in just nine games.
Plumlee was an All-AAC pick at UCF in 2022 when he threw for 2,586 yards, 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions while also rushing for 862 yards and 11 touchdowns in 13 games.
