Top 25 Coaches Poll: Alabama, Oregon maintain vise grip on 1-2 image

Alabama and Oregon continue to have a strong hold on the 1-2 spots in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll.

The Crimson Tide claimed 57 first-place votes in the newest rankings released on Sunday while Oregon received 4 and No. 4 Clemson had 1. Like the AP Poll, the only significant change in the top 10 was the ascent of Florida State from No. 8 to No. 6 after it thrashed Maryland 63-0 on Saturday.

Ohio State, which defeated Northwestern 40-30 on the road, maintained the No. 3 spot (the Buckeyes are ranked fourth in the AP Top 25 behind Clemson).

Clemson and Florida State, the powerhouses of the ACC, will have their showdown Oct. 19 at Clemson. Florida State has two weeks two prepare for that game while Clemson plays at home against Boston College next week.

Stanford remained at No. 5 following its 31-28 victory over No. 19 Washington in a Pac-12 showdown. The only new team in the Coaches Poll was Virginia Tech at No. 25.
