The Texas wide receiver room has been rich with talent under head coach Steve Sarkisian, with three members landing in the 2024 NFL Draft and a crop of senior stars who could come right behind them. On Wednesday, the Longhorns learned they'd have another star on the way when Sachse (Texas) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett committed to Texas.

Lockett is a 5-star prospect and is widely considered both the No. 2 overall wide receiver prospect in the country and a top-5 recruit in the state of Texas. The versatile, 6-foot-2, 175-pounder picked the Longhorns ahead of fellow finalists Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Florida State. And he made his announcement in style, by piping in his future position coach, Texas wide receiver coach Chris Jackson, to make the announcement:

Lockett also wasted no time to begin immediately recruiting for his future team, calling out some of the nation's top remaining uncommitted recruits to join him in Austin.

The Sachse product's commitment drives Texas' 2025 class near the top-10 nationally, with a handful of other top prospects expected to consider the Longhorns. Depending on how the next three months play out, Texas could again be at or near the top five classes in the nation come Early Signing Day.

For now, Texas fans will breathe a deep sigh of relief knowing that they again have one of the nation's top receiver prospects headed their way.
