Who still wants to play? That may be the most important question as No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 13 North Carolina meet in the Orange Bowl with several of the best players opting out of the game.
The Aggies (8-1) spent much of the final weeks of the regular season hoping and praying that one of the four teams ranked ahead of them would falter, but it was all for nothing as Texas A&M spent each of the five Playoff rankings affixed to the fifth position. The Orange Bowl will likely be Kellen Mond's final game of his collegiate career in which he finished as the program's all-time leader in career total offense, passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and pass attempts.
While Texas A&M must deal with the disappointment of missing out on the College Football Playoff, UNC (8-3) has to replace the offensive production of some of the ACC's best skill position players. The Tar Heels' running back combo of Michael Carter and Javonte Williams, as well as All-ACC receiver Dyami Brown all elected to sit out the final game, taking with them over 4,000 yards of combined offense from the season.
The Aggies have one of the nation's best defenses that led the SEC in yards allowed and finished No. 4 in the country in rushing defense. UNC still has quarterback Sam Howell who will likely be a top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
