TCU might be one season away from seeing its next superstar quarterback take the field.

ESPN broke down the list of the top quarterback recruits in the country from the Class of 2025 and included TCU commit and dual-threat quarterback Ty Hawkins out of Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio, Texas.

Hawkins committed to head coach Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs in June 2023 and was schedule to take his official visit to TCU in June 2024. ESPN’s Tom Luginbill compared Hawkins to former Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray.

Murray was the No. 1 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft

“He reminds us of Kyler Murray,” Luginbill wrote. “They have similar physical traits, but Hawkins might get bigger or more physical like Murray did. Hawkins is a really good player who has flown under the radar. With his size, he needs to be in the spread to consistently see the field clearly.

“This is an exciting commitment for the Horned Frogs. Hawkins can do everything that offensive coordinator Kendal Briles wants to do in this scheme, and he's a much better runner than current starter Josh Hoover. The RPO and quarterback zone run scheme will enhance Hawkins' skill set.”

Hawkins, 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, threw for 2,093 yards, 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 11 games as a junior in 2023. He also ran for 833 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 9.3 yards per carry.
