One year ago this week, Steve Spurrier stepped down as coach at South Carolina. Now a consultant and ambassador at his alma mater, Florida, he’s realizing the pitfalls of life without a headset.
“Oh, I’m a little bored,” he told The State in Columbia, S.C.

Spurrier seems to be enjoying his return to Gainesville with energetic pregame dance routines, but he’s not entirely sure what his role is with the program despite his fancy title.
“I don’t know who I’m consulting,” he said. “I go watch practice every now and then and watch a little tape and make some suggestions but that’s all. Their terminology and mine are completely different. We don’t even know what the other one is talking about half the time.”
Spurrier has seemed to find things to get into as he’s made surprise appearances in Columbia for new South Carolina coach Will Muschamp’s radio show, paced the sideline at an Oklahoma game last month, where his son is an assistant coach, and starred in new Dr. Pepper commercials.

Though Spurrier may not be as entertained with life after coaching, the role of a college football legend looks good on him.
