The official Oklahoma Sooners Instagram account announced that there would be a sing-along at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium between the third and fourth quarter during every 2024 home game celebrating the life and music of recently-deceased country music star Toby Keith.
OU’s social media team shared a throwback photo of a young Toby rocking a Sooners cut-off t-shirt and an explanation for the promotion.
“The Toby Keith Tribute 3rd/4th quarter break will celebrate the Oklahoma icon, giving 85,000 fans the opportunity to sing along with the legendary Sooner super fan,” Oklahoma’s Instagram read.
On February 5, OU’s IG shared a tear-jerking tribute to Keith and his family in the aftermath of his passing.
“The OU Athletics family is incredibly saddened by the passing of our dear friend Toby Keith,” the press release read. “It’s a profoundly sad reality to exist in a world where Toby doesn’t. He brought life and joy to every room he entered, and our hearts are dimmer today without him. An American icon and a stalwart Sooner. A superstar talent and a fierce friend of our program. We thank him for the unwavering support he always gave, his generosity as a human being and the countless smiles and memories he created here in Oklahoma and around the world.”
Oklahoma gives fans reason to be at every home game at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
Oklahoma made their Week 1 matchup against Temple a can’t-miss contest for Sooners die-hards. No one is going to want to miss the very first post-third quarter/pre-fourth quarter Toby Keith sing-along.
The Sooners’ 2024 season was always going to be a must-see campaign because it’s their first in the SEC. Honoring the late country-music superstar takes it a step further and bridges the gap between the past and the future as they transition to a new conference for the first time in nearly a century.
The red solo cups are going to go up in the air at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and Sooners fans will celebrate Keith’s life by having a party before every fourth quarter in Norman this season.
