Arizona LB Scooby Wright could return for Pac-12 play, report says image

Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright had a procedure to repair a lateral meniscus tear and "optimistically" could be back when the Wildcats begin Pac-12 play on Sept. 26, Sports Illustrated reports. Wright left Thursday night's game against UTSA with a knee injury and didn't return.

SI reports there is no timetable for the return of Wright, last season's Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and ninth-place finisher in Heisman voting. Doctors were "even more upbeat" about Wright's status following the procedure, according to SI.

Coach Rich Rodriguez is expected to provide an update on Wright on Monday. Arizona plays No. 13 UCLA in its conference opener later this month.

The junior linebacker ranked in the top five nationally in tackles (163), tackles for loss (29), sacks (14) and forced fumbles (six) last season.
