Sarah Fuller thanks Vanderbilt for football opportunity after Commodores' season ends image

Vanderbilt's 2020 college football season ended Monday after the SEC canceled its game this week vs. No. 9 Georgia. The Commodores didn't have enough available players under SEC rules to compete on Saturday.

That means Sarah Fuller's NCAA career is over after two games. The senior kicker, who became the first woman to play (and then score) in a Power 5 game, used the cancellation to express gratitude for the opportunity.

She posted a statement Monday night on Twitter, saying she was "accepted as an athlete and a true member of the team."

Fuller moved from Vanderbilt's women's soccer team, where she was the No. 1 goalkeeper, to American football last month in joining the Commodores' special teams. She made her debut Nov. 30 with a line-drive kickoff to open the second half of Vandy's game at Missouri. The next week, she was 2 for 2 on extra point attempts in a rivalry game vs. Tennessee.

She joined Liz Heaston, Ashley Martin and Katie Hnida as the only women to score points in a college football game. Hnida was the first to score points in an NCAA Division I-A game, for New Mexico in 2003.
