Few players in college football history will be able to say they’ve had a career like Utah quarterback Cam Rising, who is entering his seventh college football season in 2024.
Rising’s return after sitting out 2023 due to an injury could also be the difference for his team this season as they make their Big 12 debut.
“Rising gives Utah a championship-level quarterbacy to steady an offense that also returns standout tight end Brant Kuithe from injury,” ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg wrote.
Kuithe is a former All-Pac-12 pick who is also returning to play his seventh season. Another new target for Rising is wide receiver Dorian Singer, who transferred from USC.
Rising went two full seasons without playing a single down after high school, redshirting at Texas in 2018 then redshirting as a transfer at Utah in 2019. Rising played one game for Utah in 2020 and was the full-time starter in 2021 and 2022, going 18-6 and leading Utah to back-to-back Rose Bowl appearances.
Rising, who turned 25 years old in May, tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus in the Rose Bowl following the 2022 season, leading to his medical redshirt in 2023.
Utah went 8-5 in 2023 without Rising and opens the season on Aug. 28 at home against Southern Utah.
