UPDATE: The College Football Playoff rankings are No. 1 Alabama; No. 2 Oregon; No. 3 Florida State; No. 4 Ohio State
Here's what Sporting News' Matt Hayes thinks the playoff rankings will look like when they are announced Sunday:
Four in
Oregon: The win over Arizona negated the loss earlier this year to the Wildcats and gave the Ducks the best resume of anyone in the field.
POLLS: AP has Baylor ahead of Ohio State
Alabama: The Crimson Tide may not be the dominant teams of the past, but no Alabama team under Nick Saban has improved over the season like this one. The Tide are No. 2, but clearly the team to beat.
HAYES: Is Saban closer to riding off into sunset?
Florida State: After struggling all season for a statement win, the 'Noles at least made it look good enough against a hot Georgia Tech team. The resume isn't much better than the three teams below them — if only because of the unbeaten factor. That must still account for something.
BENDER: Seminoles prove they belong
Ohio State: The default pick. If the Big 12 refuses to give the CFP a champion, the CFP can use it against them. Baylor, TCU and Ohio State are so close, Ohio State's Big Ten championship is the difference.
DeCOURCY: Buckeyes rise after harrowing week
Four out
Baylor: If you put Baylor, TCU and Ohio State's resumes together, Baylor clearly has the best. Not only that, the Big 12 is a better conference than the Big Ten. But the Big 12's stance on co-champions eventually drew the focus from its best team, Baylor.
TCU: The Horned Frogs shouldn't have been ranked No. 3 anyway. Again, all that did was minimize Baylor. The Big 12 has no one to blame but themselves.
BRADLEY: Horned Frogs are in after 52-point win, right?
Ole Miss: But for a key injury to star WR Laquon Treadwell, who knows how far this team could have gone.
Mississippi State: Tough losses at Alabama and at Ole Miss kept the Bulldogs from playing for SEC and national championships.
