There’s very little West Virginia safety Aubrey Burks isn’t good at on or off the field.
Off the field, the Oakridge, Florida, native is already a two-time Academic All-Big 12 pick. On the field, Burks has graded out as one of the best safeties in the entire nation over the last two seasons, where he’s a two-time All-Big 12 pick and has started 24 consecutive games for the Mountaineers headed into his senior season in 2024.
That’s why PFF’s Max Chadwick has Burks at No. 10 on his preseason list of the top safeties in college football. In 2023, Burks had 47 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
From PFF: “Among returning Power Five safeties over the last couple of seasons, Burks has the best PFF coverage (90.3) and is second in overall PFF grade (90.2). The junior’s 22 coverage stops in that span is third among all Power Five safeties. Burks needs to improve as a tackler, but the rising senior is a rangy player who consistently makes plays in the backend of the Mountaineers’ defense.”
WVU opens the season with a monster home game on Aug. 31 against Penn State.
