College football fans were treated to a rebroadcast Thursday of the 2006 Rose Bowl classic between Texas and USC. Some who were involved with the game might not have been eager to watch.

Like, maybe, Pete Carroll, because the game reminded a lot of people of the two crunch-time decisions that follow the coach around.

Carroll was about two minutes away from leading the Trojans to a third consecutive national championship, only to have Texas and Vince Young complete a huge fourth-quarter rally for the win. But Young only got the opportunity after Carroll tried to ice the game with LenDale White instead of Reggie Bush and Texas stopped White on fourth down.

Naturally, video evidence of the play in 2020 flew around and acted like a boomerang that landed on the end of Super Bowl 49 between Carroll's Seahawks and the Patriots. (Short version, which you already know: Beast Mode, Russell Wilson, Malcolm Butler, yada yada.)
