Colorado has two of the biggest stars in college football with quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter. Colorado could have its best season in 20 years if the duo can live up to preseason expectations, which seem to grow bigger by the day.
Sanders and Hunter were named to yet another preseason watchlist for college football’s major postseason honors when they were named to the Walter Camp Award preseason watchlist on Aug. 5.
The Walter Camp Award has been given to college football’s best player since 1967 — it’s one of three awards given to the best player alongside the Maxwell Award and the Heisman Trophy.
The Walter Camp Award winner has gone on to win the Heisman Trophy in four of the last five seasons with LSU quarterback Joe Burrow (2019), Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith (2020), USC quarterback Caleb Williams (2022) and LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels (2023).
Hunter and Sanders have already won several postseason awards in their careers. Hunter was a consensus All-American and won the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player in 2023.
Sanders played his first two seasons of college football at Jackson State and won the Jerry Rice Award in 2021 as the nation’s outstanding FCS freshman and won the Deacon Jones Trophy in 2022 as the nation’s most outstanding HBCU player.
Sanders and Hunter were two of eight players from the Big 12 Conference named to the Walter Camp Award watchlist.
