In just Week 3 of the college football season, one of the first great in-state rivalries is upon us — No. 9 Oregon vs. Oregon State.

Oregon closed out last year successfully with a 12-2 overall record in the Pac-12 Conference and a blowout win over Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl. However, the Ducks were slighted for a bid to the College Football Playoffs. The Ducks lost Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Bo Nix to the 2024 NFL Draft, but they have promising returning talent in defensive end Jordan Burch, and linebacker Jeffrey Bassa.

Oregon should be able to make a solid campaign for the expanded College Football Playoff this year. However, the Ducks barely scraped by Boise State 37-34 last week; they were able to hit a last-second field goal to seal the game. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel was 18 of 21 for 243 yards and two touchdowns, but the squad made quite a few errors that led to the tight score.

Up the road, Oregon State had a much less exciting season last fall, ending 8-5. The Beavers lost coach Jonathan Smith to Michigan State, as well as a few key players, including quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Currently a member of the Pac-12 after conference realignment, it might be possible for Oregon State to have a winning season again.

This will be the 128th all-time meeting between the Ducks and the Beavers, making it the second-most-played rivalry in the FBS. Who will take home the win this time?
