The North Carolina Tar Heels will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in the 2023 Duke's Mayo Bowl Wednesday on ESPN.

The Tar Heels are 8-4 this season, sporting a .500 conference record (4-4). At one point, the Tar Heels were the No. 12 team in the country. Unfortunately, they finished unranked after losses to Clemson and NC State.

The Mountaineers are similarly 8-4. They have a 6-3 record in the Big 12 conference, giving them a sixth place finish in the conference. At home this season, they are 5-1.

The Tar Heels have the 17th best offense in the country, averaging nearly 35 points per contest this season. They're led by quarterback Drake Maye, who's projected to be one of the top signal callers taken in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft.

Maye has thrown for over 3,600 yards this season along with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also has 449 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground this season.
