Newtown (Conn.) High played its first home football game on Friday since the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary last December, and it ended up winning, too, 22-14 in front of a standing-room only crowd, the Danbury News-Times reported.
The Nighthawks typically wear blue and gold jerseys, but they went with green and white ones in tribute to Sandy Hook’s school colors, and on the back of everyone’s jersey were the words, “Stay Strong.”

"It was just kind of overwhelming," Newtown player Dan Scarangella told the newspaper of the evening. "I've never seen so many people at a game. We played for (Sandy Hook) tonight. It was good to distract them from everything that happened."
