Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has seen a lot of college football in his day — he spent over a decade as an assistant coach at six different schools until he became the head coach at Temple, then Baylor, then in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers.

That’s why, when Rhule praises someone, we should listen. And he had plenty of praise for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders during an appearance on The Joel Klaat Podcast.  Nebraska traveled to Colorado and lost 36-14 in 2023.

Colorado returns the favor and plays at Nebraska on Sept. 7.

“The one thing we always have to remember when we talk about Colorado is how great Shedeur is,” Rhule told Klaat. “He is one of the best football players I’ve ever coached against. We blitzed him and I think we sacked him like 10 times. We hit him a ton and he stood in there. Everyone sees Shedeur on commercials, the see the swagger that he plays with. But he’s an unbelievable competitor and he’s tough.”

Rhule went 11-3 in his final season at Baylor in 2019 before going 11-24 with the Panthers before he was fired five games into the 2022 season. He went 5-7 in his first season at Nebraska in 2023.
