Missouri football team not united in boycott, anonymous player says image

The Missouri football team is not as united as first thought in its boycott of team activities amid racial tensions on campus, according to a report from ESPN.

"As much as we want to say everyone is united, half the team and coaches — black and white — are pissed," an anonymous Missouri player told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Sunday. "If we were 9-0, this wouldn't be happening."

The player requested to remain anonymous as the team was told not to speak to the media. McMurphy did reveal that the player was white.

"Not everyone agrees with the decision (to stop all football activities)," the player said. "Most people are pissed, including the black guys (on the team)."

Black players on the Mizzou roster announced Saturday that they would boycott all football-related activities amid racial tensions on campus and the hunger strike of graduate student Jonathan Butler.

Coach Gary Pinkel and athletic director Mack Rhoades released a statement Sunday that the team would not resume practicing until Butler begins eating again. Butler has stated publicly that he will not eat until system president Tim Wolfe steps down from his position.
