Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy quickly walked back comments from Big 12 Media Days on July 9 that seemed to be about star running back Ollie Gordon II's DUI arrest on June 30.
“"I thought, really, two or three beers, or four — I'm not justifying what Ollie did, I'm telling you what decision I made — well, I thought I probably done that a thousand times in my life," Gundy said. "So, I got lucky. People get lucky. Ollie made a decision that he wish he could've done better."
Gordon was arrested in Oklahoma with half-full bottles of tequila and vodka in his vehicle and his blood alcohol level samples came back at 0.11 and 0.10 — above the Oklahoma legal limit of .08.
Gundy went to his official X account to clarify his comments on Gordon’s drinking and driving just hours later.
“My intended point today at Big 12 media days was that we are all guilty of making bad decisions,” Gundy wrote. “It was not a reference to something specific.”
Gundy previously announced Gordon would not miss playing time because of the arrest. Gordon won the Doak Walker Award in 2023 as the nation’s top running back after rushing 1,732 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Here's Mike Gundy's entire answer on Ollie Gordon not getting suspended. Not sure "I've probably done that a thousand time in my life. And, and, you know which is fine. I got lucky, people get lucky" was the way to go pic.twitter.com/zVig6u7p7V
