Michigan State will open its season with a matchup against the Florida Atlantic Owls on Aug. 30. It will mark the first game in green and white for new head coach Jonathan Smith, who is coming off an 8-5 record with Oregon State last year.
The Spartans also bring in sophomore transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles, who was the No. 2 quarterback in the transfer portal according to 247Sports. When asked about the season opener against the Owls, Chiles addressed the sports betting crowd.
“Like I said, if you bet, take the over,” Chiles told the media Thursday afternoon.

FAU ranked ninth in the AAC last season in total offense, averaging just over 23 points per game. However, the Owls bring in a plethora of transfers, including former Marshall quarterback Cam Fancher.
The Dayton native will have three new transfer receivers joining him: West Virginia’s E.J. Horton, Buffalo’s Marlyn Johnson, and Appalachian State’s Milan Tucker, all who averaged over 10 yards per catch last season.
Chiles is just one of four transfers coming into East Lansing for the Spartans. However, two of those transfers come in on the offensive line, so it will be important for Luke Newman and Tanner Miller to gel with the rest of the group to protect Chiles.
Wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. hopes to be even better of a deep threat than he was last year, while Michigan State is also excited about talented freshman Nick Marsh.
It will be interesting to see if this game is the fireworks show that Chiles thinks it will be. The Over/Under is 47.5 points right now on BetMGM, so we’ll see how many betting folks take the former Oregon State Beavers’ advice.
