A Spartans loss seemed so a sure thing as Michigan had the ball in the game's final seconds that team staffers delivered the Paul Bunyan Trophy — awarded to the winner between the two rivals — before it was even over, according to The Detroit News .

It wouldn't stay there long as Michigan State returned a botched punt for a touchdown in the game's final seconds to secure an improbable victory, bringing Paul Bunyan back to East Lansing for the seventh time in the past eight years.
