After an ugly win in East Lansing against Florida Atlantic in their season opener, Michigan State took a victory in College Park against Maryland the following week, 27-24. The Spartans are the only team in the Big Ten currently 1-0 in conference play.
This win as nearly double-digit underdogs grabbed the attention of ESPN staff writer Kyle Bonagura, who predicts Michigan State will take on Toledo in the Detroit Bowl. It would mark the Spartans' first bowl appearance since 2021, when they defeated Pittsburgh in the Peach Bowl.
Quarterback Aidan Chiles had a lot more yards through the air despite throwing three interceptions. He completed 24 of 39 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh had a monster game, reeling in eight catches for 194 yards and a touchdown.
After this week, the Spartans' schedule will begin to ramp up as they face three Top-25 teams within the next month. Michigan State will pay visits to Boston College and Oregon, while hosting the Ohio State Buckeyes in between. They will also meet their archrival, Michigan, a couple of weeks after that.
Nevertheless, the Spartans will take on Prairie View A&M this Saturday, who is coming off a 37-31 win against Northwestern State.
