The reigning national champions are back, with plenty of new faces.

Michigan waltzed to a perfect 15-0 record in 2023, blitzing its competition behind a stalwart defense and domineering rushing attack. After capturing the program's first national championship since 1997, the Wolverines endured an offseason exodus.

Jim Harbaugh returned to the NFL, becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers and leaving Michigan in the hands of offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. A first-time head coach, Moore helped steer the Wolverines last fall during Harbaugh's suspension for the infamous sign-stealing scandal.

The new era of Michigan football will be headlined by a new offense. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy, running back Blake Corum, and wide receiver Roman Wilson are all in the NFL, shifting greater responsibilities to tight end Colston Loveland and running back Donovan Edwards, who scored two touchdowns in the National Championship Game. McCarthy's replacement remains an unknown, with Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle among those vying for the starting nod.

The Wolverines return a large nucleus of last year's unit, which ranked as the top-scoring defense in college football. Cornerback Will Johnson, a projected lottery pick, and nose tackles Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham are expected to serve as the anchors.
