A massive nonconference matchup culminates Sunday night in Las Vegas when LSU takes on USC in the second edition of the Vegas Kickoff Classic game. Both teams are amid transitional periods with new quarterbacks but are still led by two of the best college football coaches, Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly.
Kelly will see a vast majority of his team be underclassmen and will now see Garrett Nussmeier take over at quarterback after Jayden Daniels moved on to the NFL.
Kelly said his team's depth will pay dividends, given that they are familiar with neutral site games from previous years.
"We have a lot of freshmen that played those first two openers," Kelly told SEC Network's Paul Finebaum. "Now, they’re veterans, if you will. And we expect that those battle scars from those first two years of playing a Florida State team that was pretty good are going to pay off in this opener against USC."
As for USC, it is the beginning of the program's transition to life after Caleb Williams and the introduction of Miller Moss at quarterback. This opener won't be Moss' first rodeo at USC, however.
Moss saw limited playing time last season but still managed to throw seven touchdown passes and racked up 372 yards in a 42-28 win in the DirecTV Holiday Bowl.
With the college football world buzzing in anticipation, USC vs. LSU promises to be one of the best games of the weekend between to title hopefuls in their respective conferences.
