The LSU Tigers are rich in tradition and known for producing talented football players.
Those that wear the purple and gold train and prepare for football glory by being strong and hard-working. They must be good teammates.
These are the traits of the standout LSU players who have worn the iconic No. 18 and No. 7 jerseys for the Tigers. Those numbers were given out on Thursday for this upcoming season.
For the 2024 season, RB Josh Williams and linebacker Greg Penn have been selected to wear
No. 18.
The first to wear the No. 18 jersey at LSU was quarterback Matt Mauck (2001-2003). Through hard work and perseverance, Mauck overcame a broken foot suffered in the 2002 season and led the Tigers to their second national title in 2003, the first for then LSU head coach Nick Saban.
This season, preseason All-America selections LB Harold Perkins Jr. and offensive tackle Will Campbell will don No. 7. Perkins has 26 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in two seasons. Campbell did not allow a sack last season.
The great Patrick Peterson was the first to put on the No. 7 jersey in his three seasons in Death Valley (2008-2010). Peterson was a two-time All-American selection and won the Bednarik Award and the Thorpe Award in 2010.
Other Tiger standouts to wear No. 7 include RB Leonard Fournette (2014-2016), and Tyrann Mathieu in 2011.
