Duke was about to do the unthinkable: hold No. 6 Louisville to a field goal and get a chance to upset the Cardinals on the road.

The ACC officials thought otherwise. Down 17-14 with a shade over two minutes left in the game, the Blue Devils recorded two tackles for loss to set up a 46-yard attempt for Louisville kicker Evan O'Hara. O'Hara missed the kick wide left, but Duke cornerback Breon Borders was flagged for roughing the kicker.

Borders' penalty was questionable at best.

The missed kick would have given the Blue Devils the ball on Louisville's 36-yard line with two minutes and two timeouts remaining. They could have driven for a game-winning touchdown or, at the very least, a tying field goal, but the penalty essentially sealed their fate. Lamar Jackson scored a touchdown two plays later to give the Cardinals a 24-14 lead and the win.
