Kiffin will take over an Owls team that has gone 3-9 in each of the last three seasons and fired Charlie Partridge last month. FAU is 28-67 since going to back-to-back bowls in 2007 and 2008 under Howard Schnellenberger.
Kiffin was also linked to since-filled openings at Oregon and Houston.
Alabama’s offense has taken serious strides since Kiffin came to Tuscaloosa three seasons ago. Before turning true freshman Jalen Hurts into a star this season for the top-ranked Crimson Tide, Kiffin helped Alabama to a national title last year with Jake Coker as his quarterback.
According to ESPN.com, Kiffin will stay with Alabama through the College Football Playoff, much like defensive coordinator Kirby Smart did last season before taking over at Georgia.
In 20 games as the head coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2007 and 2008, Kiffin went 5-15 before being fired. He landed on his feet at Tennessee then bolted just one year later to take the top job at USC, where he went 28-15 in three-plus years before being fired during the 2013 season.
