Kansas State was one of five Big 12 Conference teams to land in the Associated Press Top 25 Preseason Rankings on Aug. 12, with the Wildcats coming in at No. 18.
The biggest storyline for Kansas State in 2024 will be a quarterback switch that saw last year’s starter, Will Howard, transfer to No. 2 Ohio State and sophomore Avery Johnson take over for the Wildcats.
Kansas State went 9-4 in 2023 and closed the season with a win over No. 19 North Carolina State in the Pop Tarts Bowl, with Johnson making his first start and earning MVP honors.
The other four teams from the Big 12 to make the Top 25 were No. 12 Utah, No. 17 Oklaoma State, No. 21 Arizona and No. 22 Kansas. Georgia was No. 1 and defending national champion Michigan came in at No. 9.
Kansas State opens the season at home on Aug. 31 against Tennessee-Martin.
