Kansas State is firmly entrenched among the Big 12 Conference contenders in 2024 — as well as getting a spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll preseason Top 25 rankings.
Kansas State begins the season at No. 17 in the poll and one of five teams from the Big 12 in in the Top 25 alongside No. 13 Utah, No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Arizona and No. 24 Kansas.
Other Big 12 teams receiving votes were West Virginia, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Colorado.
Georgia was the No. 1 team in the USA Today Coaches Poll, followed by Ohio State at No.2. Defending College Football Playoff national champion Michigan was No. 8.
Kansas State has finished in the final AP Top 25 rankings for each of the last two seasons, coming in at No. 14 in 2022 and No. 18 in 2023. The Wildcats have been ranked in the Top 25 at some point for six consecutive seasons.
If the Wildcats do put together a run in 2024, they’ll have to do it with a new starting quarterback in sophomore Avery Johnson, who takes over for Will Howard. After the 2023 season, Howard transferred to Ohio State, where he’s now the starter.
Kansas State opens the season on Aug. 31 at home against Tennessee-Martin.
