Former Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill, who retired abruptly last offseason due to health issues, is set to take over as the offensive coordinator at Rutgers, NJ.com reported citing multiple unnamed sources.

Kill, the 2014 Big Ten Coach of the Year, was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2005, suffered a seizure on the sidelines during a home game in 2011 and missed seven games because of his condition in 2013. He suffered multiple seizures before practices leading up to his retirement.

Rutgers had an abysmal 2-10 season with an offense ranked last in the FBS in total offense. Still, 28-year-old offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer parlayed his only season with the Scarlet Knights into a co-offensive coordinator job at Texas under Tom Herman.

Kill, currently an associate athletics director at Kansas State, hasn’t been an offensive coordinator since his days Pittsburg State (Kansas) in 1993. He will be Rutgers’ eighth offensive coordinator in eight seasons.
