Week 13, the final week of the 2023 college football season, is coming to a close and the Heisman Trophy picture for the upcoming year is as clear as it has ever been.
Here's a look into each potential finalist's case for the award with only championship weekend still remaining.
Heisman Trophy odds
Here's a look at where the Heisman Trophy race stood based on the odds put out by BetMGM ahead of Saturday. Nix was the odds-on favorite according to those projections, and it would not be surprising if that did not change when the latest odds are released at the completion of Week 13.
Name | School | Odds |
Bo Nix | Oregon | +110 |
Michael Penix Jr. | Washington | +140 |
Jayden Daniels | LSU | +500 |

2023 Heisman Trophy frontrunners
While Nix is clearly the favorite as things stand right now, this competition is far from over as other candidates made a strong push for their case. Here's a recap of the latest performances of the players who have the most likely chance to be named the best in college football for the season.
QB Bo Nix, Oregon
Oregon knocked out arch-rival Oregon State 31-7 on Friday, and Nix finished 33-of-40 passing as the Ducks chose to air it out on offense for some 367 yards and two passing touchdowns.
He also carried the ball six times for 31 yards with a single rushing score.
For the season, Nix has thrown for 3,906 yards while completing 78.6% of his passes. He has 37 passing TDs, 2 interceptions and has rushed for 159 yards and 6 TDs.
QB Jayden Daniels, LSU
One of the biggest arguments surrounding the Heisman race and how it is shaking out is that Nix may be the most deserving of the award, but the type of season Daniels is having -- despite his team's record and some of their shortcomings -- is one that simply cannot be ignored.
Daniels continued to bring light to that as he finished out LSU's 42-30 victory over Texas A&M 16-of-24 passing for 235 yards with four touchdowns. He was also LSU's leading rusher, using the mobility he's been so commended for to carry the ball 120 yards on 11 attempts.
He has 3,577 passing yards and 1,114 rushing yards, with 36 passing TDs, 10 rushing TDs and just 4 interceptions for the 9-3 Tigers.
QB Michael Penix Jr., Washington
Penix has been the favorite to win the Heisman at multiple different points in the season, and it's not necessarily by any fault of his own that he's fallen into the third seat. This is a close race filled with success stories from the transfer portal in 2023, proving that sometimes, the grass truly is greener on the other side.
Penix finished out the Huskies' hard fought, 24-21 win over Washington State in the Apple Cup 18-of-33 passing for 204 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
While the Huskies had their moments, Penix was a steady force that made a key difference in avoiding an upset in the rivalry game. He drove Washington 65 yards in the final minutes to set up a walk-off field goal.
Penix has 3,695 passing yards with 30 TDs and 7 INTs for the undefeated Huskies.
WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State
If any player from another position was expected to have a legitimate chance at winning the Heisman, it was Harrison. Unfortunately for his case, he and the Buckeyes were bested 30-24 on the road by Michigan.
On the big stage that could have made all the difference in where he stood in the race, Harrison had five receptions for 118 yards with one touchdown. Whether or not that outing in a game that was so close, yet so far away, makes a difference remains to be seen.
Harrison has 1,093 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches, plus one rushing touchdown, on the season.
