The Rhode Island Rams (3-1) will travel to Virginia to face the Hampton Pirates (3-2) this afternoon, in what should be one of the highlights of the Week 5 CAA slate.
Coming off a bye week, URI enters the week ranked in the top five in red-zone defense. The Rams also rely on stud running back and Sacred Heart grad-transfer Malik Grant, who exploded for 141 yards and three touchdowns en route to a 28-21 win over LIU two weeks ago. QB Devin Farrell leads the charge under center.
Hampton has enjoyed a solid second year in the Coastal Athletic Conference, already matching its win total from its debut year in the conference a year ago. The Pirates are licking their collective wounds a bit, though, having lost to No. 11-ranked William & Mary 49-7 last week.
Hampton will hope some home cooking tilts things in its favor against the conference-foe Rams. The Pirates have gone 2-1 at Armstrong Stadium so far in 2024, collecting wins over Virginia Union and Howard. This marks the third time Hampton will have played URI, with Rhody taking the first two meetings in 1972 and 2001.
