One of the most anticipated non-conference matchups is just a few days away, as No. 3 Texas travels to Ann Arbor to take on No. 10 Michigan. It’s a matchup of two teams who made last year’s college football playoff, with Michigan ultimately reaching college football’s mountaintop in 2023.

Michigan is coming off a 30-10 win against a gritty Fresno State team last week, where their defense held strong against the run game. Despite the defensive masterclass, ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy has questions about a different part of the Wolverines’ team.

“Based on what I saw last week, I think Texas is ahead of Michigan at this point. I think the offensive line for Michigan is a concern.” McElroy said on his podcast “Always College Football”. “I think Texas’s weapons will be able to create enough space and I think the veteran play of Quin Ewers gives Texas a slight advantage. He’s won big games, and I think he can do so again on the road in what should be a hostile environment.”

A key matchup in this one will be Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond vs. Michigan cornerback Will Johnson. While Bond had 86 total yards and a touchdown against Colorado State last week, he’ll have a much more difficult matchup on Saturday against Johnson, who is one of the best defensive players in the country.

It will also be interesting to see if the Wolverines can keep up their momentum offensively after a 17-point fourth quarter against Fresno State. Running back Donovan Edwards will play a crucial role in this game, but it depends on whether the offensive line can give him room to run against a solid Longhorn defense.

Michigan's massive advantage is that this game will be played at The Big House. However, Steve Sarkisian and Texas are no strangers to tough road games, having defeated Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium last season.
