Big 12 Conference football will welcome four new teams in 2024 — the second year in a row the league has brought in four newcomers.
Let’s hope the four newcomers this year will fare better than the four did last year.
Of the four teams joining the Big 12 from the Pac-12 Conference, only Arizona State seems destined to struggle in its initial season — the Sun Devils were picked to finish in last place out of 16 teams in the media’s Big 12 preseason poll. Arizona and Utah are considered legitimate Big 12 title contenders and Colorado … well they could surprise everyone.
Last season’s four new teams — BYU, Cincinnati, UCF and Houston — combined to go 8-28 in the Big 12 in 2023. None of the four teams had winning records, with UCF leading the way at 6-7 with the best mark in Big 12 play at 3-6. BYU and Houston went 2-7 in Big 12 play while Cincinnati was 1-8.
