ESPN announced a multi-year extension with play-by-play voice Brent Musburger on Thursday, cementing his place as the voice of the SEC Network alongside color analyst Jesse Palmer.
“The SEC is the best football conference in the country. You can’t beat it,” said Musburger, who will also call weekly college basketball matchups. “Terrific football, clearly — year in and year out. The conference has been tremendous to work with. I’m glad the SEC Network is such a great success. It’s been great working with Jesse Palmer.”

In celebration of of the new deal, let’s relive five of Musburger’s most iconic and awkward moments calling college football.
Hail Flutie (1984)
Before going to ESPN/ABC in 1990, Musburger enjoyed a long career at CBS where he put word to one of the most memorable moments in college football history.
Holy Buckeye! (2002)
Ohio State quarterback Craig Krenzel, on a critical fourth-and-1 play late in the game trailing Purdue 6-3, found Michael Jenkins for a 37-yard touchdown and a 10-7 victory.
The Marshall Mathers interview (2013)
ESPN wanted to plug its new intro music with Eminem, but the rapper decided to make the spot painfully awkward for Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit and everyone watching at home. At least Eminem ended the interview by calling Musburger the legend he is.
Michael Crabtree’s sideline catch to beat Texas (2008)
Crabtree’s tried career at Texas Tech is most remembered by this remarkable play to beat rival Texas. That Saturday was the first time ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast from Lubbock, Texas.
Katherine Webb incident (2013)
Unfortunately, the latter part of Musburger’s career is more known for his sometimes-awkward moments. Most famously, his drooling over Katherine Webb, then Alabama QB A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend, during the 2013 national title game.
Keep the moments coming, Brent.
