Florida State's football coaching search took a turn Thursday night when it was reported that Seminoles legend Deion Sanders has emerged as a candidate to replace the fired Willie Taggart.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, citing unnamed sources, tweeted that Sanders is being considered for the position. Sanders works for the network as a studio analyst.

Sanders, 52, has never been a coach at the collegiate or professional level, but he has coached high school football (per CBSSports.com), including at Prime Prep, the now-closed Dallas-area charter school he co-founded. He also has maintained ties to the Seminoles' program, most visibly through occasional speeches to the team.

That coach referenced by Sanders in the second clip? Taggart.

FSU dismissed Taggart on Nov. 3 after a loss to rival Miami, dropping the 'Noles to 4-5 on the season. FSU was 9-12 (6-9 ACC) during Taggart's season-plus reign. Taggart succeeded Jimbo Fisher, who left Tallahassee in 2017 for $75 million from Texas A&M.
