Last weekend was full of major upsets, most notably Vandy's historical victory over Alabama. That trend could continue this week as several teams in need of wins are heading into trap game situations.
No. 5 Penn State @ USC
Take the rankings out of it, these two schools carry brands that could land the best recruits in the country. Both teams have talent, but there is a difference in on-the-field performance. USC took a tough loss last week, blowing a fourth quarter lead to Minnesota -- a real welcome to the Big Ten moment. Penn State is making the trip to Southern Cal for the first time since 1991, when they lost 21-10. Last time these two teams met was at the 2017 Rose Bowl, with USC emerging victorious in a classic 52-49 game.
Arizona @ No. 14 BYU
BYU exposed Kansas State, who in turn exposed Arizona. Last week, BYU allowed 20+ points for the first time this season in a close 34-28 win over Baylor. Arizona's offense is led by Tetairoa McMillan, potentially the country's best receiver, who started the season with 309 yards and four touchdowns. Arizona has the potential to make this a tough game for the Cougars.
No. 11 Iowa State @ West Virginia
Iowa State has the opportunity to secure a spot in the 12-team college football playoffs, but it hinges on winning the Big 12. A visit to Morgantown is always challenging, particularly when you're the team to beat. West Virginia is riding high after a strong victory against Oklahoma State, so they'll have momentum on their side under the lights.
No. 18 Kansas State @ Colorado
The Buffs are seeking a significant win this season, and it could begin by dashing Kansas State's playoff hopes. Kansas State has shown promise at times but has also displayed mediocrity. The Buffs require an outstanding performance from their defense, and the energy of the home crowd under the lights could fuel that.
