Clemson vs. Boston College results: Tigers clinch spot in ACC title game with win over Eagles image

No. 2 Clemson clinched the ACC Atlantic Division title Saturday night with a 27-7 road victory over No. 17 Boston College.

The Tigers (10-0, 7-0 ACC) scored 24 unanswered points after allowing a 74-yard punt return touchdown by Michael Walker in the first quarter and falling behind 7-3.

Clemson freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence didn’t seem to be affected by the cold weather as he completed 29 of 40 passes for 295 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. The Tigers outgained the Eagles (7-3, 4-2) 424-133 for the game.

11:21 p.m.: That'll do it from Chestnut Hill, Mass. Clemson clinches the Atlantic Division and a spot in the ACC championship game in Charlotte, N.C., with the win.

11:11 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, BOSTON COLLEGE. Lawrence tries to take advantage of man coverage downfield and has an errant throw picked off by Hamp Cheevers. 

11 p.m.: Clemson uses a timeout with 7:57 left in the fourth quarter. The Tigers and Eagles have traded punts since the return touchdown by Rodgers.

10:47 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, CLEMSON. The Eagles can't get anything going on offense and punt it away. Rodgers returns the punt 58 yards for the touchdown. Clemson leads 27-7.

10:42 p.m.: Boston College forces Clemson to punt. It'll take over at its 12-yard line.

End of third quarter: Clemson 20, Boston College 7 

10:33 p.m.: Nearing the end of the third quarter and the teams have traded punts since Clemson's touchdown.

10:20 p.m.: The two teams trade three-and-outs. It's Eagles ball with 7:59 to go in the third.

10:11 p.m.: The Eagles let the kickoff bounce out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. They'll get to work at their 25-yard line.

10:07 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, CLEMSON. Lawrence runs it in on a keeper to cap off a 64-yard drive. Clemson leads 20-7.

10:03 p.m.: Boston College receives the second-half kickoff. After a quick three-and-out, it'll punt.

9:40 p.m.: Clemson has a fourth-and-12 from the Boston College 42-yard line. Lawrence tries for the Hail Mary but fails. That'll do it for the first half.

9:29 p.m.: After review, the call stands. The Eagles keep the ball and will start in Tigers territory.

9:26 p.m.: On the kick, a Boston College player gets in the way of Rodgers as he's trying to field the punt. He muffs it and the Eagles recover. The play is under review.

9:23 p.m.: A bad snap goes over Perry's head and he runs back to recover it. The Eagles will punt it away on . . . fourth-and-49. 

9:05 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, CLEMSON. Clemson gets the ball back after forcing a punt and caps a 56-yard drive with a field goal. Clemson leads 13-7.

End of first quarter: Clemson 10, Boston College 7

8:52 p.m.: Backup EJ Perry is in at quarterback for the Eagles.

8:51 p.m.: On the ensuing kickoff, Walker nearly runs another one back as he's forced out at the BC 49, but the return is called back because of a penalty.

8:48 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, CLEMSON. The Tigers go for it on fourth-and-goal. They bring in Wilkins in Dexter Lawrence for one play. Trevor Lawrence fakes a handoff to Wilkins and hits Milan Richard for the 2-yard score. Clemson leads 10-7.

8:45 p.m.: Clemson's Tee Higgins make a ridiculous catch as he reaches over a defender for a 35-yard gain. The Tigers are threatening in Eagle territory.

8:37 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, BOSTON COLLEGE. The Eagles force the Tigers to punt it away. Michael Walker returns it 74 yards for the score. Boston College leads 7-3.

8:35 p.m.: Boston College quarterback Anthony Brown took a hit from Clemson's Christian Wilkins. He was slow to get up and was just escorted to the locker room by trainers.

8:29 p.m.: Rodgers fields the punt at the 15 but is immediately swarmed by defenders and downed at the 10. 

8:27 p.m.: Boston College fails to convert on third-and-10 and will punt it away to Clemson.

8:23 p.m.: The ensuing kickoff goes for a touchback and the Eagles will start at their 25-yard line.

8:20 p.m.: Brief note: Clemson running back Travis Etienne surpassed 1,000 rushing yards this season with his first carry of the night:

8:19 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, CLEMSON. The Eagles manage to hold Clemson to a field goal after the big gain by Rodgers. Clemson leads 3-0.

8:17 p.m.: Lawrence finds Amari Rodgers on a 41-yard throw for the first big play of the game. The Tigers are in the red zone after just three plays.

8:15 p.m.: Clemson receives the opening kickoff. Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers' offense will start at their 29-yard line after the return.
