It will be an SEC vs. ACC clash when Kentucky takes on Clemson at the 2023 Gator Bowl on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats started the year 5-0, but they soon fell victim to the rigors of the SEC, losing five of their last seven games. They ended their regular season on a high note, defeating Louisville in a rivalry showdown.

Kentucky is powered by a pair of fifth-year senior transfers: quarterback Devin Leary (NC State) and running back Ray Davis (Vanderbilt). While Davis recently declared for the NFL Draft, the 1,000-yard rusher also announced that he intends to play in the bowl game.

The Tigers, meanwhile, sat at a pedestrian 4-4 mark heading into November, a far cry from fulfilling the lofty expectations for the program under Dabo Swinney. But Clemson won its final four games — including two victories against ranked opponents — and finished in the top 25 of the College Football Playoff rankings.

Clemson relies on one of the nation's top defenses, as it allows just 278.7 yards per game. That's the seventh-lowest mark in the country.

Kentucky holds the all-time series advantage, 8-5. But in the three prior bowl game matchups, Clemson owns a 2-1 edge. All three bowl contests were decided by a single score.
