Virginia Tech added a quarterback Saturday, announcing that Braxton Burmeister intends to transfer from Oregon.

Burmeister, a sophomore, saw limited action behind Justin Herbert in two seasons with the Ducks, and playing time in Eugene figured to be scarce again in 2019 with Herbert returning for his senior season.

In 11 collegiate games, Burmeister has completed 49 of 87 passes (56.3 percent) for 373 yards, with two touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 131 yards and three scores on 71 attempts.

It is not clear when Burmeister will be eligible to play for the Hokies, Richmond.com reported. Transfers can apply for an NCAA waiver of the rule that requires them to sit out a year.

Virginia Tech was down a quarterback after former starter Josh Jackson decided to transfer; Jackson chose Maryland last week. Burmeister will join Ryan Willis, who became the starter after Jackson suffered a broken leg in September vs. Old Dominion; returnees Quincy Patterson II and Hendon Hooker; and incoming freshman Knox Kadum in the Hokies' QB group.
