Colorado safety Shilo Sanders is one of the most recognizable players in college football — and one of the highest earners in the current era of Name, Image, LIkness (NIL) deals with an estimated annual NIL value up to $1.4 million, according to the On3 NIL Rankings.
With the news the son of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders filed for bankruptcy last October to avoid a $12 million judgment for damages stemming from an assault of security guard John Darjean at Sanders’ Texas high school in 2015, the 24-year-old’s NIL earnings are coming under the microscope.
The Athletic broke down Darjean’s countersuit against Sanders in bankruptcy court on the basis that Sanders wasn’t truthful about his listed assets of $320,000 on the bankruptcy filing.
Sanders started his career at South Carolina in 2019, then transferred to Jackson State for the 2021 and 2022 seasons to play for his father, who was the head coach there at the time, then transferred to Colorado to follow his father there in 2023.
